ParticipantRemember, I may not have mentioned it in the video, but figuring out your ideal as a homemaker goes beyond getting the laundry under control.
Don’t rush through the assignment, be thorough. Grab a cup of coffee or tea and take a few minutes to write out your answers.

ParticipantHi Jennifer! I am not able to find the link to the first session. All mine shows is a link to the the 4th about Our husbands wishes, but it goes to an empty page. Help! 🙂

ParticipantThis is the one I’m actually looking for–the one about our husband’s wishes. I’m trying to catch up on the videos that were out before the course started and can’t find them?

ParticipantJessica, today is just the first day. I’m not sure why the website is offering the other videos. Only one video and assignment have been posted though, so you’re not behind 🙂

ParticipantI found a backside, by just typing in module 1 into the search window. And that got me there. Not sure where I am going awry. But for now, it works for me to go this way! Sorry to bother you! Have a good morning!

ParticipantYes, you have. I like the questions you asked. I will have to take some time during nap time to go through them. I have a slight idea for now. I am excited! Thanks Jennifer! Gabrielle.

ParticipantYes, I will have to take time either during quiet/nap time or this evening when everyone is down to finish my assignment because if I want to get my home under control I need to get working! So we are starting our day, a little late but we are getting started! Thank you so much, you gave me a lot to think about as I go through my day :D.
Have a great day ladies!

ParticipantDefinitely has me thinking. This will be a good exercise to do. I’ll be pondering through the day until I can sit down and write it all out.

ParticipantVisionary isn’t my fit, so the questions are really great in finding what it is I really want from myself in our home. I like the question of “what kind of homemaker do you desire to be?” As I thought about it, I didn’t realize how much complaining I have been doing. And how much I have been shirking the responsibilities around here. And how the feeling of being overwhelmed is just a feeling and not a true reality. Instead of feeling the weight of the long to-do list and pouting, I can turn it to feeling the weight of the holy calling by God to love my husband and children through service in this home. It’s eye-opening. Thank you, Jennifer!

ParticipantYes, you do! I loved how you talked about having difficulty creating the home you desire unless you know what that looks like. I think writing this down will really help me to have that vision and refer back to it when I’m feeling overwhelmed and don’t know where to put my time and efforts. Excited to do this tonight when my little ones are tucked in for the night. 🙂

ParticipantYes, this has made me think! I have filled out some of the blanks on the assignment sheets, but I will continue thinking throughout the day on what I want my home to be like! I especially like the questions on how we interact with and speak to people–sometimes I treat the people in my home like they are distractions from the “real” work, when what I want is for the PEOPLE to be the valued part of my home, and the rest of the work is done to support and care for them!

ParticipantYes! Of course you do! ? I thought I had this figured out when we beta-ed the course. But, the truth is I am still thinking and rethinking. It’s almost like this is an assignment to do every 6-12 months to fine tune your goal, your ideals, your expectations. Ok. So, time to think while I catch up on laundry ?

MemberI will be thinking of this all day and write it formally tonight. Sometimes my vision of what is ideal doesn’t marry to what is doable. Any thoughts? I want my children to come home from school to a clean house and homemade snacks. I want my husband to come home to a clean house, tidy wife and supper made….I’ll definitely be adding to this. Great first assignment ?

Participantmarilla21: Yes 🙂 Stick with this, I think your question will be answered after the next few videos. In short though, priorities and time management. Those are common areas of struggle for so many women who want to do certain things at home, but aren’t seeing the fruit of it.
Mandy: Yes, being realistic 🙂 We can definitely add way too much to our plate sometimes. I know I can!!

ParticipantWriting out goals is something my husband learned from his older brother. We have both done it in many areas of our life. I can say that I never have when it comes to being a homemaker as a whole though. I have a pretty good idea in my head of what I want to be but I am excited to actually write it down! My problem comes from the part about being realistic. I want to strive to be my best but not be disappointed with unrealistic expectations of myself.

ParticipantI found it helpful to list my vision for my home as interpreted by my five senses:
What does my home look, sound, feel, smell and feel like… This was great in one of the What else sections and really helped me get to the details that make the vision come alive. 🙂 -

ParticipantWow! What a wonderful video, I have so many thoughts and ideas going through my mind already, I can’t wait to sit down and actually writing it all down! The part that really got my attention was how does she speak, growing up I tested my mom and we fought A LOT which usually ended up in yelling (her and I both) and I tend to still yell and it absolutely breaks my heart when I do because I desire SO much to remain calm and speak quietly because I want the yelling to end with me and not be passed on as something “normal” for my kids to do to their kids!

ParticipantI grew up with a mom who was a huge supporter of the feminist movement and she was very much against stay at home moms. My Mother-in-law taught me a lot of things when I met her.
I struggled with the ideal homemaker -

ParticipantOh yes! Lots of thinking today. I mulled it over for a few hours while tending to other things and then sat down to write out my thoughts (yes over a cup of coffee) while the kids were having a quiet rest time… I’m realizing what I’m seeking after as a homemaker is more than getting tasks done. I want to be efficient at a smooth-running home so that I can be present with my family. Be involved in hospitality. Be kind in giving instruction. And be successful at cultivating a fun, creative, warm, and welcoming environment. The well-oiled routines are just a means to that end. (I hope!!) 🙂

ParticipantYes! I having been thinking all day about it 🙂 I watched the videos, printed off the assignments (I will fill them out tonight after tucking my daughter in). Just watching the first video and knowing I am in a group of other homemakers wanting to improve was really motivating! I had classical music and sermons playing, and I vacuumed, dusted, mopped, did a few loads of laundry, cleaned the bathroom, organized a little. I set the timer for 10-15 minutes per task and that helped keep me moving! I was surprised at how much I got done in just an hour and a half or so. I’ve been contemplating and praying about the answers here and there. I desperately want to see things from God’s perspective and not my own. I don’t want to rush through this, but soak it all in. Thank you, Jennifer!

ParticipantI totally agree! Having a group like this with other Christian women is an incredible encouragement. We all have our certain areas where we struggle and where we thrive.
“Therefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.” 1 Thess. 5:11
P.s.. Shannon: Exactly! (Homemaking is more than getting tasks done)

MemberYes! It has been very helpful to look at my ideal & realise that what truly matters to me is not cleaning all day everyday, but keeping the home well enough to be healthy, comfortable & welcoming of everyone. I was surprised to realise that while it is important that I have my home clean, being a godly homemaker is more about me & my heart attitude than sticking rigidly to a cleaning schedule. Thanks Jennifer 🙂

ParticipantThis was a great video and the questions really made me realize it is not just my vision for my home but God’s. Tonight I had a kitchen that needed cleaning but my 4 yr old needed to sit on my lap while he ate his snack. I was teaching him Spanish words and we were giving each other butterfly kisses in between bites. In the past, I would be so focused on checking off another task on my list that I would have sat there angry feeling guilty that my kitchen wasn’t clean right then.
This assignment helped me realize it is having a peaceful, loving home is what I desire. As well as a tidy and smoothly run home. But I see I’m not the only one who feels that way! -

ParticipantI enjoyed this assignment! So simple, yet so thought-provoking to actually put into words. I agree with some others that my ideal homemaker is less about the cooking and cleaning tasks and more about the vision/attitude behind it all.
